Mike Anderson

Head Coach

Northern Colorado alum and former Men's College World Series skipper at Nebraska Mike Anderson has been named the 10th head coach in UNC Baseball history in June of 2022.

Returning to the Blue and Gold, Anderson played for the Bears from 1983-86 under legendary head coach Tom Petroff and was drafted in the eighth round of the 1986 draft by the California Angels.

Anderson brings over 30 years of coaching experience to the position and an astute eye for talent. The Centennial State native has served as the Colorado Scouting Director for Prep Baseball Report (PBR) for the past three years.

Prior to his duties with PBR, Anderson was a member of Pete Hughes' coaching staff at Oklahoma from 2013-17 and coached Regis Jesuit High School in Denver from 2012-13.

Most notably, Anderson took the reins at Nebraska in 2003 and lifted the Cornhusker program to new heights across his nine-year stint as head coach in Lincoln.

Compiling a 337-196-2 record, Anderson made the Big Red a powerhouse in the Big 12 Conference. He took five different teams to the NCAA Tournament and reached the Men's College World Series in 2005, earning Nebraska's first World Series win in program history.

Twice, he took home Big 12 Coach of the Year (2003 and 2005) and his .632 winning percentage is second in Nebraska history among coaches who have been at the helm for at least two seasons.

Anderson remains one of the best in the business in developing young talent. While in Lincoln, he coached the 2005 National Player of the Year Alex Gordon, five National Player of the Year finalists, nine First Team All-Americans, five Big 12 Players of the Year, 23 first-team All-Conference Honorees, four Freshman All-Americans, two CoSIDA Academic All-Americans and six first team CoSIDA Academic All-Americans.

Prior to his head coaching duties, Anderson served as an assistant at Nebraska from 1994-2002, helping the Cornhuskers claim their first appearance in the Men's College World Series in 2001 and then again in 2002.

It won't be the first time Anderson has coached for the Bears having served as an assistant for the 1992 season under Terry Hensley. He's also worked as head coach of the Northern Colorado Lab School and spent two seasons as a scout for the Toronto Blue Jays.
